All of our wood-fired Moroccan ceramic tiles are made using materials and techniques that have remained virtually unchanged for hundreds of years. These tiles are truly handmade. Typically, a batch of tiles with the same glaze from a single kiln will include a broad spectrum of different tones of the desired colour. These tonal variations are one of the characteristics that make these tiles so different from others produced today. Being entirely handmade, they are characterised by a slightly textured surface, with each tile differing from the next.
The art of 'zellige', the creation of sometimes complex geometric patterns using hand-cut ceramic tile pieces, is unique to Morocco. Dar Interiors offers a number of shapes of handmade hand-cut tiles that can be used to create many different patterns.
Dar Interiors' handmade Moroccan wall tiles are cut to size after firing in the same way as our hand-cut mosaic tiles. The most popular sizes for these zellige tiles are 10cm square and 5cm square, although, many other shapes and sizes are available to order. Our wall and hand-cut mosaic tiles are ideally suited for kitchen splash-backs, bathrooms, hammams and wet rooms and many other applications.
The images below show our unglazed ties (AN01 unglazed natural AN01* and unglazed and waxed) and the range of colours for all of our wood-fired ceramic tiles (AN13 - AN57). The bottom row of images show examples of the 'Dar' range of wood-fired ceramic wall and hand-cut mosaic tiles. However, we can have many other dimensions and shapes made to order.
